March 30 The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) released the "Renewable Energy Capacity Statistics 2017" report. The report pointed out that by the end of 2016, the global renewable energy installed capacity reached 2006 GW, which accounted for the largest share of total installed capacity of 1122 GW. Wind and solar energy development is particularly strong, installed capacity of 467 GW and 296 GW respectively. The growth momentum in the African region is particularly pronounced, with new renewable energy generating capacity of 4.1 GW in 2016, double that of 2015. On the off-grid renewable energy-related data show that by the end of 2016 off-grid renewable energy power generation installed capacity reached 2,800 MW. Of which about 40% from solar energy, 10% from water, the rest of the largest proportion from the biomass energy. According to IRENA estimates, about 60 million households worldwide (about 300 million people) benefit from off-grid renewable energy.
